| Fire Prevention
Falls Township Volunteer Fire Department is dedicated
to the preservation of life and property, and in with that comes
Fire Protection. FTVFD has an inspection bureau that handles all
inspections and investigations in the township. The bureau also
works in conjunction with the Muskingum County code department and
the State Fire Marshals Office. The bureau is responsible for
inspecting three of four West Muskingum Schools and the businesses
in the Township. The Falls Twp. Fire Dept. Bureau has members
trained in Fire Investigation and Certified as Fire Safety
Inspectors.

| Smoke Detectors |
- Smoke Detectors should be installed on every
level of your home, near bedrooms, in the garage, and away from
air vents.
- Replace your Smoke Detector Batteries when
you adjust your clocks for daylight savings time. Check your
batteries monthly
|
Portable Heaters |
- Keep everything that could get hot or catch
fire away from portable heaters.
- Plug heaters directly into the wall socket
and unplug them when they are not in use.

Electricity |
- Use safety plugs in electrical outlets when
small children are around.
- Avoid overloading electrical outlets and
running cords under carpets and furniture.

Exit Drills in the Home |
- Plan and practice a fire escape route from
every room
- Use a chain ladder to escape from upper
levels and practice using it
- Teach Children not to hide from firefighters,
such as under beds, in closets, etc
- Identify a place outside to meet in case of
fire
- Know how to call 911 for assistance with
fire, medical, or law enforcement

Using Your Escape Plan

Crawl low under the smoke and
keep your mouth covered

Feel closed doors with the back
of your hand.

-If hot, use another exit.

-If not hot, open the door slowly
and check for smoke and flames
-
Meet at a designated meeting
place outside, then call for help.

Always use a neighbor's phone to
call 911. Never use the phone in the house or building that is
on fire!

Safe Cooking Practices

Keep any items away from the
stove that could catch fire, such as hot pads or towels

Keep an ABC fire extinguisher in
the kitchen and know how and when to use it
